Haire's Famous Louisiana Shrimp

Haire’s Gulf Shrimp is a proud Black-owned, women-led business that has become a beloved part of the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side. Originally launched by Finnie Haire in the early 1980s from a train caboose, our seafood restaurant is renowned for serving the best fried shrimp in Chicago, featuring our signature Louisiana-style shrimp.

The culinary legacy of our famous seafood restaurant is deeply rooted in family.

Haire’s mother, affectionately known as “Big Mama,” passed down her cherished shrimp recipe, creating a tradition that resonates with our community. Michael Haire Baldwin, Finnie Haire’s nephew, fondly recalls the afternoon in the ‘70s when his grandmother invited them into her kitchen to learn the art of making fried shrimp—a moment that has become a treasured family story.

Haire’s Gulf Shrimp is committed to excellence in corporate catering and seafood catering services in Chicago. We’re known for our shrimp dinners with fries, shrimp bomb bags, and our food truck that brings the taste of our historic restaurant to events across the city. Join us to experience why we’re considered the best shrimp spot on Chicago’s South Side!

Finnie Haire

Finnie Haire originally launched the locally famous shrimp shack in the early 1980s from a train caboose. The restaurant is currently located in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on 75th and Vincennes.

Haire’s mother, affectionately called “Big Mama” by family, passed the shrimp recipe down according to Michael Haire Baldwin, nephew of Finnie Haire. Baldwin vividly recalls the afternoon, back in the ‘70s, when his grandmother called him and Haire into her kitchen to teach them how to make fried shrimp. The experience has since become a treasured family story.

Haire’s Gulf Shrimp is a family business and a beloved part of the neighborhood.
